Charlie Eleanor DeRuiter
Faces have always fascinated me. I remember trying to draw a portrait in the as a young child, fascinated by the beauty of a face and being completely unable to capture it. My absurd disappointment in my inability to remotely capture what I could see at a young age was so great that I didn't try drawing a face again until my mid teens. I woke up one morning and decided I could. And I did. It felt euphoric, as though my eyes had opened and my hand responded. I began drawing then and I am still on that journey. Every drawing is a form of joy, of worship. Exploring the intricacies of a person and translating their story, part of their soul at that moment, onto a drawing or painting is my desire. These are recent portraits in my journey.
